"Who the hell do you think you are?!"

Our brains are wired according to our childhoods, our upbringing, our traumas and learned responses. And we know that there are toxic influences swirling around in there with our positive conditioning. White supremacy, ageism, classism, toxic capitalism, grind culture, sexism, etc. But the good news is the brain is always looking for ways to re-wire the things that are no longer serving us.

One thing that consistently shows up in my work with clients? No matter WHAT a person is facing, whether it be leading a 5 million dollar company, starting a brand new company, or birthing a child, is that their BELIEFS about what is possible actually shape what IS possible. Which begs the question, if we can change our beliefs, can we change what is possible?

The answer is YES! because words are magic.

As a personal and business growth strategist, a lot of people are relieved because they think I am going to show them HOW to achieve their dreams. (which I do!)  But even with the most badass strategy, and the numbers to prove it will work, there is still one huge thing that can derail the whole thing. The persons BELIEFS about what is possible.

When we turn towards these limiting beliefs, sit down, and hear what they have to say, we get to decide what to believe. Do we want to believe our conditioning or do we want to write a New Truth for ourselves?

Here’s how:

  1. Listen to the limiting belief: Let’s take imposter syndrome for instance. The limiting belief tells us, “Who the hell do you think you are? Do they know you are this young? Do they know you’ve never had a “real job?” You are not an expert. They are going to see right through your inexperience. You have no business being here!”

  2. We get to sit with where this is coming from and decide if this is a voice we respect. In this case: ageism. the belief that “I am not capable because I am younger than some of my clients”. White culture: “things must be perfect in order to be valuable.” Self doubt, minimizing my life experience, fear of failure, on and on.

  3. Now we get to write our own New Truth: “I am here BECAUSE they want to hear from someone in exactly my position. My unique perspective of my exact level of experience is what makes this the perfect opportunity for me. I am not hiding anything! Will I learn and grow because of this experience? OF COURSE! Because I do with every experience. If I knew everything about this, it wouldn’t be fun or intriguing anymore. Every new level is my teacher and my expander.”

Rinse and repeat. Say it out loud. Say it to a friend. Read it again and again until it feels right and True. This is your New Truth.

Now you try it! What limiting belief do you want to re-write?
