Jill of all trades
I used to go from being in a high-powered Nike meeting discussing Michael Jordan’s private flight attendant uniforms one minute and then throw on a jumpsuit and unpack a pallet of new sewing machines the next. I would bounce between running payroll and ordering thousands of yards of material. I would go from troubleshooting a clash between employees to a sales meeting happy hour. And I was so proud that I could “do it all.” But now I see how much that was holding me back in growing the company. I couldn’t be in multiple places at once, and I was spending precious time doing things I hated or sucked at.
The “Jill of all Trades” skills that got you to this point in your business will be the enemy of your future successes. You learned to like bookkeeping, project management, copywriting, etc out of necessity. Because at the beginning it was just you. But trust me, this is the missing piece you need for your growth!
You jumped into the water of Entrepreneurship and by now you are a damn good swimmer. You are used to that mode of having your fingers in every aspect of the business, and juggling it all. But taking this business to the next level is going to take some serious self control. Your jackpot in terms of revenue AND happiness is when you can stay in your FLOW activities as much as possible.
This is where my Flow Assessment comes in. Many people have gotten so good at so many things in their businesses, that they have almost forgotten what their superpowers are. And chances are it has evolved with the business. Flow activities are things that come so naturally that you are almost shocked that other people don't also have these skills. You could (and often do) do them in your sleep, or wake up with amazing ideas in this area. It takes you hardly any time or effort to deliver serious value when you are in these activities. (Which is why these are your jackpot, because you DO NOT charge hourly or time-based for this value!! If you are charging hourly for this, message me. We gotta get you into the value-based pricing model ASAP!)
First, you have to have extreme clarity about what your Flow is. Ask yourself what lights you up in your business? What could you do until 3am with your BFF if they needed it? This is where it can also help to get an outsiders’ opinion! I have my clients send an email actually asking 10 people what they perceive to be their superpowers are. This activity is SO transformative and fun.
Second, it means pivoting your business to revolve around offerings where you get to stay in your flow. (THIS is the reason I can make more money than I ever have working 20 hours a week. Because I say no to EVERYTHING that comes my way that is not my flow. And I say no to myself when I come up with hair-brained ideas that aren’t my flow either.
Third, you get to outsource all of the things that are NOT your Flow. Trust me, when your time is spent in the things that light you up - you make more money!! Your flow activities are your million dollar skillset. And your time is precious and limited. So we can prioritize these things and outsource the stuff you suck at to other people who would love to support you!
